The Maison de l'Europe ("Europe House") of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region is a public institution established in December 2017 by the Regional Council (Conseil régional).
On May 2, 2018, it officially opened its doors to the public as a fully regional institution. It brought together, for the first time, the two existing European information centres in Dijon and Besançon, which had previously operated independently.
What sets the Maison de l'Europe apart is its active presence throughout the region—an approach that is unique in France. Our team works in the field every day, engaging directly with more than 24,000 people annually.
Our Mission
The Maison de l'Europe aims to inform, educate, and engage the public on European issues through a wide range of content and services. We are committed to:
-
Creating a welcoming space for citizens to learn about and engage with the European Union, supported by a wide array of thematic resources.
-
Promoting, connecting, and supporting local initiatives that embody European values and foster European citizenship.
-
Organising information sessions and training events for diverse audiences.
-
Leading and participating in activities with a European dimension.
-
Supporting the European projects of the Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and its partners.
A Networked Institution
The Maison de l'Europe is an active member of two key networks:
-
Europe Direct, the European Commission’s information network operating across the EU. Its mission is to inform citizens about the EU, explain its local impact, and encourage engagement and discussion.
-
Fédération française des Maisons de l'Europe, which promotes European citizenship and coordinates actions across the network of Maisons de l'Europe in France.
Examples of Our Programmes
We offer a diverse range of activities, including:
-
Workshops in schools and informal education settings, such as interactive presentations, games, role plays (e.g. European Parliament simulations), and quizzes.
-
Educational trips to European institutions in Brussels, Strasbourg, and beyond.
-
City rallies to showcase the EU’s concrete impact on local communities.
-
Lending exhibitions on a variety of EU-related topics, available to schools and other institutions.
